Moody Gravel Biking Photoshoot with Ruedi Beck

In the middle of the night, I set off with model Ruedi Beck for Creux du Van, an extremely spectacular spot in the Jura Mountains. The weather forecast predicted fog with a ceiling exactly at the height of the cliff.

Anyone who knows me knows that, as a nature and landscape photographer, I also love playing with fog. Often you lose when you try to hit the fog line exactly. But when the gamble pays off, it becomes truly epic.

For this shoot, I wanted to combine my experience in landscape photography with sports/cycling photography. Unfortunately, my courage didn't quite pay off this time, and we ended up about 30 meters too low, right in the middle of the fog.

So, I had to improvise and make the best of the situation. Instead of golden images above the fog, I ended up with cold, atmospheric gravel biking photos. I'm more than happy with the pictures, though. These kinds of moods have their own special charm. So, in the end, the adventure was still worth it.
